Abstract
Knowledge is power, and a clear and current understanding of the NIH system, the priorities, opportunities, and changes is critical for success in the process of grant application and funding. Researchers in communication sciences and disorders should be familiar with the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) at the NIH, as it is the major Federal funding agency for research in these areas. This presentation will focus on recent changes at the NIH which are relevant and of interest to the audience of SRCLD, as well as NIDCD-specific information, including success rates, funding trends, opportunities, priorities and other issues related to communication disorders. A question and answer period will follow the formal comments, to allow audience members to raise specific concerns and have them addressed.
